KOCHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said that it unearthed iron smuggling from Cochin Shipyard much before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Kerala visit.
The CBI didn’t take cognizance of the matter immediately as it may affect the schedule of PM’s visit, the agency said.
Iron rodes were found cutting on the road in early morning and the smuggling of the same had been recorded in the CCTV, CBI said.
The agency seized a number of documents from the shipyard during a raid.
There were reports that CBI had detected smuggling of iron worth crores from the shipyard and it had registered cases againt AG M Ajithkumar, contractor Mohammed Ali
The agency also raided the residences of both the accused, who have cited PM’s visit as an excuse to smuggle iron. But the prime minister cancelled the visit.
