DUBAI: The expatriate community in the UAE is stunned after hearing the news. They never dreamt that the Central Government will intervene strongly in the case of Atlas Ramachandran, who has been behind the bars for the last two and half years, to seek his release from all cases.
Noted industrialist BR Shetty, who is a known BJP man, too is involved in the Central government move to seek freedom for Ramachandran. This has forced the UAE banks, which had filed cases against him, to take a step back.
The UAE government too forced to take a lenient view after the Union Government took a strong stand and Sushma wrote directly to the government. This is a new experience for many expatriates living in the UAE for many years.
None of them thought that ‘bankrupt’ Ramachandran would be able to settle all the cases by paying a huge sum of amount.
The expatriate community said that though most of them have a political difference with the BJP, the Centre’s move, especially Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj’s stand in the case is laudable.
In the past, there were external affairs ministers hailing from Kerala, like Shashi Tharoor, E Ahmed, and Vayalar Ravi, but Malayalis never got it better. Sushma is giving that much consideration, help and importance to expatriates, especially Malayalis, they said.
It should be noted that the BJP doesn’t have a single MP from Kerala, still, she is giving that much care to the expatriates from Kerala.
They are giving a big salute to the big heart of Sushma Swaraj.
Malayali nurses kidnapped from Iraq were freed without a single scratch from the hands of terrorists due to diplomatic and tactical moves made by Sushma Swaraj and the Central Government.
She also intervened strongly for the release of Father Tom Uzhunnalil, who was kidnapped by IS terrorists in Yemen. She used the good offices of Oman Government for the release of Father Tom.
Only a Twitter message is enough to reach Sushma for help from any corner of the world. She will respond within 15 minutes, that is her speciality.
Even Pakistani citizen got help from Sushma a number of times. They mostly got help for expert medical treatment in India.
She intervened and brought back a woman from Punjab, who was trapped in Saudi Arabia by her sponsor. Sushma also helped and brought back another Indian who was married at gunpoint in Pakistan.
She took special interest to arrange help for a Chennaite who was trapped at Malaysian airport with the body of her son.
