Honey trap: IAF officer Arun Marwah held for leaking classified information to ISI

NEW DELHI: Indian Air Force officer Group Captain Arun Marwah has been arrested by the Delhi Police for leaking classified information of the IAF to ISI agents, sources said.

Investigation officers said that two Pakistani agents used girl’s profiles to lure Marwah in the social media and accessed classified information of the IAF from Marwah, who was posted at Indian Air Force Headquarters in New Delhi.

Marwah fell into the honey trap of Pakistan agents in December 2017, the investigation officer said and added that his high-end mobile phone was seized after registering an FIR against him.

The ISI agents lured him through chatting and Whatsapp and got all the information they wanted, sources said.

The Air Force Intelligence officials took him into custody on January 31. They have questioned him and handed him over to the Delhi Police for further investigations.

The Special Cell’s northern range on Wednesday took him into custody after being interrogated for nearly 10 days by the counter intelligence wing of the IAF, a senior police official said.

He has been booked under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) provisions and five days police custody has been granted by the court for questioning him, he said.

Marwah, who was posted at the Air Force headquarters, was allegedly leaking classified documents to a woman through WhatsApp. He had befriended her through Facebook in December last year, the official said.

As per the complaint filed against Marwah by the Air Force, he was caught by the counterintelligence wing after he was found carrying a high-end phone at the headquarters, which are banned there.

The counterintelligence wing is also probing whether he was part of any larger espionage ring.

The IAF officially did not comment on the matter.

Punishment under the Official Secrets Act entails a jail term of up to seven years.
