KANNUR: Father of Youth Congress leader SP Shuhaib, who was hacked to death at Therur near Edayannur in Kannur district on Monday, said that the deceased faced several death threats and police never investigated it.
“The CPM workers had attacked Shuhaib in jail. I am not satisfied with the police probe. My son was trapped in a false case,” his father Muhammed said.
“The CPM was harbouring political enmity towards Shuhaib for a long time. The reason for the enmity for the same was that Shuhaib intervened in an issue on the behalf of KSU students at Edayannur school. Later, the CPM trapped him in a false case alleging that he attacked CITU workers. He faced death threats many times. There were attempts to kill him in jail too. Even though we complained many times, the police neither came for an investigation nor took any statements from him,” Muhammad said.
In these circumstances I am not happy with the police action, he added.
Suhaib was murdered late on Monday night, the police said. A four-member masked team came in a car which had no registration plate and threw bombs to create panic in the area.
They hurled bombs thrice and then hacked Shuhaib, who was sitting in a tea stall nearby, with sharp weapons. Shuhaib got deep wounds on both his legs and died on his way to Kozhikode Medical College.
There were 37 wounds on his body. His companions, Congress workers Riyas (36) and Pallipparambathu Noushad (28), were also attacked.
